Drax and Biomass
Drax firmly believes that biomass should and could play a far greater role in helping to meet the UK's challenging climate change targets. Generating electricity from biomass is a cost effective, proven renewable technology, which is reliable and can respond quickly to changes in electricity demand.
Drax has eight years' experience of working with biomass and, given the right policy framework and an appropriate level of regulatory support, we stand ready to significantly expand our biomass operations. Our research and development work to increase the level of biomass burnt at Drax Power Station continues with a focus on design and costing solutions for logistics, biomass handling and storage, and engineering. We are also continuing our work with Siemens Project Ventures to progress our dedicated biomass developments.
Through significantly increasing our biomass burn we can continue to be as reliable, flexible and cost effective as we are today well into the future, but importantly as a low carbon business.
